The Tall Dutchman.
Gentle satire on the author's trade, and a love letter to Dorothea ('Nobody ever was angry with Dorothea'). And I can see, more clearly every year, that my copy of WH is the most battered and the most faded of all. On the shelf, all the other spines are green, but WH is brown.
But even for a 1948 copy, the Cape quality is there. It's been carelessly used, as any well loved book should be, but it still retains its physical integrity.
