Though I have never been to the Lake Country, I do remember doing a Google Map view of the area of Syria where the Altounyans lived (thanks to a thread on this board a few years ago) and the lake they sailed on near Aleppo. If I remember right, the boathouse(?)was still there. Having read both of Taqui's books, it brought her history (and the entire clan and of course Ransomes too) home to me.
