Thanks for your thoughts on this Mike. You may well be right that my ISP (Waitrose fronting BT) is removing much spam.
However my secrity report on MaAfee claims that in the last reporting session it has removed 5909 spam messages, 4 phishing messagea and cleared 50386 clean messages.
I will look at my account via web mail as you suggest.
Perhaps we may need to continue, if needed, this conversation off group as it not really germane to AR.
