Hi there,
I'm using the plans as they appear in Racundra's 3rd Cruise, scanned from the book, and then scaled to 1/8th. The model's big enough at 44" for radio control, small enough to fit in the car.
I would agree with you, Roger, regarding the proportions. The hull seemed a bit "fat" to my eyes when I set the frames up, but now the planking's done- here's an overhead view, bow to the left - the waterline has a smooth entry and exit, and she looks ok. Certainly stable - the righting moment must have been huge with such a wide beam and so much steel in that keel. All helped, no doubt, by being under-canvassed.
My current "raised eyebrow" relates to the details of the companion way. This is described only very briefly in Racundra's 1st Cruise, and not much more in Coles' Close Hauled. The drawings show the head (toilet) as, well, a small cupboard you'd probably have to reverse into, in a crouching position. The galley's no better - though presumably you could stand in the "corridor" to handle the pots, pans and cocoa.
