I agree that though the fictional lake has elements of both Coniston and Windermere, its location is imagined to be mainly that of Windermere. It has Rio (Bowness/Windermere town) on its east coast, with no more lakes to the east but a railway connecting it to the outside world via Strickland Junction (Oxenholme) and the main line. Near the north end there's the village where Dorothea found a bookshop (Ambleside). Near the south end there's another railway (Lakeside).
