I suspect that Arthur would have loved the internet...and it reminded me that when he writing, such delights as magnesium powder flash and an open camera-shutter, timber boats and Trojans were all the order of the day. WE see his books as marvellous nostalgia. Is this what makes them so appealing?

Jon - if you get your new book underway, will it be contemporary, with Hullabaloos (Correct spelling, Alan? I've not yet worked out how to spellcheck when emailing!) on jetskis upsetting the breakfast pan. Then you can sit back for 60 years and wait until young sailors of the twenty-first century start a noticeboard about YOU! Good luck with the project.
