I visited The Wade on Friday while waiting to board the Harwich - Hook of Holland ferry.
Some small changes, since AR was here:
The view across the Red Sea
The view is still the same, but there is a lot of sand around that wasn't there in AR's time.
Looking East
The saltings don't look very healthy and a new marina has appeared across from Cape Horn.
Looking South-west
The dykes were raised, re-aligned in places and given a concrete 'skirt' in the 1950s
following the East Coast floods. Later a low concrete wall was added to the top of the
dykes. Since then vegetation has grown to hide the worst of the scars.
