Certainly John, you are right that SD was the longest, but your hypothesis that the length declined as series developed does not seem to hold true.

I'm too lazy to plot a scattergram or compute a correlation coefficient, but it does look to me as though there is a slight correlation between position in the series and length of book. The four longest in word count are all among the first six published, and the four shortest are all among the last six published.

Also, the first three published are among the four longest.

What is the last figure for each book, the one that's around 3000?
