Over the years that I have been reading and posting to TarBoard I have noticed that the many threads have a habit of branching off in strange directions that the person original poster never anticipated... For me this is one of the delights of TarBoard and its weather-beaten User Interface.

I don't think anyone minds very much if a post strays from the original subject line just as long as some sort of connection (however tenuous) is maintained with the post to which the reply is being posted.

I belong to another discussion group which uses a different UI. Here any posts which stray from the subject line are immediately shunted into their correct line by one or other of the moderators. To my mind this approach seems rather heavy-handed, and I resent someone else deciding under what heading my posts should appear.

In comparison, TarBoard with its 'light hand on the wheel' Editor, and 'steady as she goes' moderation policy is so civilised. I wonder if other TarBoarders would agree...
