For those who aren't aware - J & D = Jennings and Darbishire, two ten-year-old heroes of the Anthony Buckeridge books. They are boarders at Linbury Court School and spend much of their time keeping clear of the wrath of English teacher Mr. Wilkins, commonly known as Old Wilkie.
There's a good Jennings website where you can view original books and the translations - apparently they're a wow in Norway where our hero is named Stompa.
AR's books have not escaped the phantom name-changer - in the French editions the Swallows (or Hirondelles) are Jean, Suzanne, Micky and Roger, while poor Nancy becomes Marion. Does anyone know whether "Nancy" means something inappropriate in Danish, because she becomes Ursula in my copy of Winter Holiday!
PS - I'm always on the lookout for translated AR editions - please email me if you know of any source!
Robert
