Re Turner & Blackett alliance--
one assumes that the gentry of the Lake District would naturally run
into each other at social events-- we already know about ice-skating
on the frozen lake, then there would surely have been drag-hunting
-- hunt balls, and no doubt garden parties, weddings, church and the
like-- I forget if there is any reference to any of that generation
attending Oxbridge (I cannot remember whether Uncle Jim's college
background came up in ML), the girls prob. wouldnt have..(esp.
Molly Blackett who doesnt seem the type..). But certainly all the
eligibles of this class from the entire area (as far as Kendal, Cartmel,
etc. & possibly Carlisle) would have been aware of each other
& constantly thrust together...). The recent book 'Railways in
the Lake District' shows a flourishing rail service in that period--
Boy, this going to be some AGM!!!
