When asked what his politics were, Ransome famously told Sir Basil Thomson "Fishing". This always almost reminded me of a more or less similar comment, and I've finally remembered it is from Josephine Tey's The Singing Sands. Inspector Grant is asked by a psychologist if he has any hobbies, and replies "no".

P: "What do you do when you go on holiday?"
IG: "I fish."
P: "You fish?...And you don't consider that a hobby?"
IG: "Certainly not."
P: "What is it, then, would you say?"
IG: "Something between a sport and a religion."
