When I first read your message re twins, and the reply/replies stating that the 'twins' line had never appeared in AR, I was at first somewhat surprised - since I also remembered the exact same line.
I decided then that it _probably_ came from a Lone Pine book.
I _think_ that the line is used in one of the early chapters of one of the early books, and occurs while the twins (I can't remember their names either) are at a railway station, meeting one/some of the other Lone Piners off a train. (Rather vague, I know - it's at least 15 years since I read Malcolm Saville)
Can anyone either confirm this, or assure me that I'm imagining it?
