I've never seen the Godine paperbacks so cannot comment. The font used in the Jonathan Cape hardbound editions is called Bembo. It was designed in 1929 by the Monotype Corporation, Ltd, based on the work of Francesco Griffo of Bologna in 1495 (apparently all Old Style Roman fonts are based on Griffo's work according to "The Art of Written Forms" by Donald Anderson). So it looks like Jonathan Cape used a (at that time) brand new font for S&A and kept using it for the rest of the books. If you want to fax me an example from one of the Godine books of what you particularly like we can try to find it. 707-442-9342 is my fax number.
