There were trains from Norwich to London that ran about this time in the 1930’s. It would have been important to catch this train as it was the only fast-ish train taking 2 ½ hours to Liverpool Street, calling at Diss and Ipswich.
Nowadays trains take under 2 hours and call at more stops.
If he was going to a major London Court, the Old Bailey dealt with criminal cases whilst the Royal Courts of Justice (more often called the Law Courts) in the Strand dealt with other types of case at a high level.
Being a senior solicitor travelling on client’s business, he probably travelled 1st class to London and took a cab from Liverpool Street station.
