Libby Purves' new novel 'Regatta' has a fairly substantial Ransome reference on page 167. The book is about a deprived inner-city child who gets fostered into a boaty community where she is initially completely bemused and out of her depth. The AR reference comes at a pivotal point. Her name incidentally is Anansi, which at a certain stage gets shortened to Nancy.
I think this answers the question of whether LP is familiar with AR.
The other, altogether slighter, reference is in a Neville Shute book, I forget which, in which the hero reads a chapter or two of Coot Club to his son one bedtime.
