A tricky one for me. I was slow to learn to read (I now realise I a kind of mild dyslexia) and really got going when I was seven or eight with Blyton's Secret Seven and ...of Adventure books, and can still remember 50 odd years on the satisfaction of reading an entire one on a single car journey. I then moved on to others (Jennings and the William books mainly) and of course AR and the Lone Pine series. Despite their obvious flaws I see Blyton's work as a stepping stone to reading.
