Thanks to Peter Willis and Johnny Broadhead for their replies (the
latter under the title "Lone Pine Robert").

Having been away for a week, I was unable to report earlier that I
received an email from John Parker of the Malcolm Saville Society,
answering my question in the affirmative. The phrase "Mary, the older
by an hour" occurs in the author's description of the members of the
Lone Pine Club at the beginning of "Saucers over the Moor". At some
stage in the years after I read this, my memory of it got somehow
transferred into a false memory of having seen "Dorothea, the older
by an hour" in one of AR's books.

Special thanks to John Parker.

As an aside to Peter's reference to "discreet hormonal interest",
even though I've only read a few of the Lone Pine books and none
of the late ones, I dimly remember one character jokingly referring to
another as "a brazen hussy" - something you wouldn't get in AR.
