Oh, I agree with you, Adam. I suppose what I'm saying is that by trying to squeeze what apparently is, as you say, six-odd hours' worth of reading into one hour, you're necessarily going to have to omit so much of the book that what's left is really just a rump that's not worth having at all. (It makes even my possible-two hours look rather ridiculous as well.)

People will definitely hang in there for a full set of episodes though if the story, whatever it is, is interesting enough. There was a radio serial out here, "Blue Hills", that went to air in no less than 5,795 fifteen-minute weekly episodes that ran for 27 years.... (And it didn't finish until twenty years after TV was introduced here either, so it was pretty popular.)
