I've read all three, and really liked them. They have many references to Ransome's stories, as well as some to other great children's lit. Modern times, more modern kids, but still a nice level of kindness & good values. The main story takes all three books to completely unfold, although each book can stand on its own. The plot is fairly complex and there are lots of sub-plots, so they could be pretty confusing for younger readers. I found I had to re-read the first two books to fully understand how the final books ties up many loose ends.
