TARS has contributed funds towards the cost of extending of the churchyard at Rusland, resting place of Arthur and Evgenia Ransome. On Wednesday 22nd September the extra land was consecrated by the Bishop of Penrith.
Approximately twenty-four TARS members attended the service, which was both simple and moving. The Bishop and procession walked the boundaries of the new area, each corner of which was blessed and sprinkled with holy water while verses of the psalms were said.
The foundations of the old wall boundary have been left to create a footpath, which now fortuitously leads right to the tree overlooking the Ransome grave. If you have not been before it is a most peaceful place set high on a hill - well worth a pilgrimage.
After the service one party of TARS adjourned to the White Hart at Bouth while another sampled the excellent food (and drink!) at the Brown Horse, Winster, not far from the Ransome home of Low Ludderburn.
