Who owned Wildcat Island in the 20's?

I am wondering who would have owned Wildcat Island at the time the Swallows & Amazons camped there? Would anyone have a clue? I don't think it would have been the National Trust - would they have existed then? If Peel Island was privately owned or the other island in Windermere that was Ransome's alternate source for Wildcat - I would very much like to know.
