That was my point, Ransome was not just any novelist. He set himself the task of telling stories realistically, as if he were recounting events which he had witnessed. (With the exception of PD and ML, of course.) This is why there is a greater expectation of consistency in his writing.
One would expect him to lay out a timeline when plotting a story. (I know I did.) If this is related to a real time, it is then a minor task to note which days are Sundays or when Full Moons occur and to plot around them. Most novelists simply wouldn't care; the assumption is that Ransome did.
