So true Peter. I had a moment like that watching the final of the BBC 4 TV quiz Only Connect, there were two questions - one about the young of fish and the other about two masted sailing boats and though I only got the part right my familiarity was due to AR. Things you know about or understand references to from reading the books so many years ago!

Yesterday I had the good fortune to buy from our local charity bookshop (I'm a regular customer!) ten of the canon - the Puffin edition with the coloured in line drawing covers except for S&A which had the film tie-in cover. All in excellent condition (they looked unread) for a £1 each. They also had WDMTGTS but this looked well-read with a much creased spine (a particular annoyance to me!) so I suspect someone bought and read this as it is close to around here and never bothered with the others.
