Well the hair thins, but my body has stayed fit. So maybe this is just a mindset of a guy who still loves adventure. As Squashy isn't in this film, I could be an extra, a powerful native rowing a boat who says nothing about Capt Flint but "so that's what you call him, I dare say you're right!"
