Regarding S&A names for a dinghy...
Hmm, Lots of choices if I put my mind to it,

"Fat Vicky" (may require too much explanation, after all, in SA
this was meant with much love and affection)
"Sinbad"
"Bill's tooth" (from PD)
"Gibber"
"Dipper" (the bobbing bird from SA)
"Elephant" ("Elephants! Elephants Forever!")
"Mastodon"
"Tweedledum"
"Roger's Shark"
"Dixon" or "Mrs Dixon" if you wish
"Sopho" (or one of the other two pigeons)
"Mary Walker"
"Young Billy"
"Savage" (there were many savages in the book)
"Mopps" (Molly Blackett's childhood nickname)
"Aunt Maria" (why not, the GA wasn't all bad :-)
"Rio Bay"
"Duffer's Pride" (ok I'm getting a bit silly here)
"Darian"
"Squashed Fly" (I still haven't ever seen a real
squashed fly biscuit)
"Polly's Feather"

Ok I think I should stop now.
regards from London (Canada, eh!)
