Further follow-up from Amsterdam on the subject of names.
"Thogh Titty indeed is a bit troublesome, literally it would be Tietje but no parent does this to his/her baby-girl.
I think Tientje is a good find, which indeed has a feel of the thirties about it. Which 'Kitty' also is/was popular over here and might be an option.
People in this country know and accept that English people have English names, so translation is not really necesary, though Titty is a no-go.
I recall that the kids in Enid Blighton's books kept their own names, even Julian though no Dutch kid ever is a Julian.
However if you insist on translating them:
John would be Jan or Johan, though nowadays many Dutch boys are named John
Susan could be Susan or Susanne or Suus or Suusje.
Roger in Dutch is Rogier with the hard guttural 'g' in the middle."
