According to WorldCat Modern Cookery Illustrated was first published in 1937. This doesn't quite rule it out as AR was writing in 1943 and might not have noticed the anachronism. Also, Lydia Chatterton had published an earlier unillustrated version of Modern Cookery.
The earliest dust-jacket photo I could find, quite different from the description in PM, dates from the 1946 edition. Would AR have risked too accurate a description of an actual book?
