Samantha! I'm writing this lying down: the old trouble, y'know - idleness. Yes, one does get the impression of a crusty uncle with Arthur...but, as a Yorkshireman, he must have been spot-on. I wonder if any elder TARS met him?
Mike Field...will have a Blandford cat underway to you shortly. I've given mine away already, so you shall receilve a brand, spanking new one.
Congratulations to Robert Thompson on your prompt response to Quiztime. As the outright winner, Robert, you will receive...my undying admiration. 'Oarsmen' is the word I had in mind, of course: 'Moaners' obviously never entered my head in connection with TARS. :——)
Iain Hobbs. Very interesting about Arthur visiting Frank Richards. The latter was a real character. I have a pic of him in his sitting-room at his typewriter, which he referred to as Remington. He wore a skullcap and bicycle-clips to keep warm, and apparently he gambled heavily, always trying to beat the casinos with a new, infallible system!
