Cars travel through the Chunnel by train so the left/right issue doesn't arise. However, Ed has reminded me that in the 1960s there was a period of enthusiasm for a road tunnel. One national newspaper allegedly printed a letter that suggested that drivers going to France should drive on the right to accustom themselves to French conditions. Drivers going towards Britain would drive on the left to accustom themselves to British roads. I have the feeling that the writer hadn't quite worked everything out.

It's about 20 years since I last drove outside the USA but at one time I used to work in continental Europe. Through business trips and vacations I became familiar with all four combinations of seating and side of road. I only found two areas of difficulty, picking the correct lane when turning onto a divided road, and going the right way at a roundabout (traffic circle in USAian). Those took a moment of thought.
