Thanks to Wikipedia, the mystery is solved. Oigh-sgeir and Garbh Sgeir are two islands with a 100 m gap between them. Wikipedia alleges that there is an anchorage between the two islands which is presumably where the Sea Bear went.
However, I'm now inclined to favour the "stars = lighthouses theory." There's no star on Mallaig or Castlebay on Barra. There is one on the eastmost point of South Uist which has a lighthouse but no port. The star to the north of Lewis is closer to the lighthouse than to Port Nis. There are stars that match the lighthouses on Raasay and Eilean Beag. And so on.

The thought occurs to me that really serious AR fans could set out to visit all the lighthouses (or whatever) marked on the GN map. Something like climbing all the Munros.
