Peter; more information than you requested but thought you would find it interesting.
There was no charge to launch a boat when I kept my boat there between 1988 and 1993. There used to be a small charge for using the slipway paid to the Coniston Boating Centre which was run by The Lake District Special Planning Board.
There was a charge to keep a boat at the Boating Centre which in 1988 was £88 per year. This allowed you to keep your boat afloat for short periods during the year. This rose to £105 in 1989, £115 in 1990, £127 in 1991, £137 in 1992 and in February 1993 this increased to £160, which is when I moved my boat to The Broads, much cheaper but not very good sailing. I dread to think what the charge is now!!
If you wanted a permanant mooring on the lake you had to apply to the Rawdon Smith Trust who owned the bed of the lake. How the Rawdon Smith Trust came to own the bed of the lake is shrouded in mystery, perhaps a local Tar may know more. There's more information regarding The Rawdon Smith Trust on the Coniston Launch website.
