There is, or was, an excellent U.K. periodical called "Waterways World" which had dozens of adverts for hire boats and builders/chandlers/etc. When I went to have a quick look on the web, I couldn't find that company, but did come up with www.canaljunction.com, which seems to be a similar publication, and has links to hire boat yards and builders.
