I've just found an online article about a group of people living a dream I (almost) didn't know I had! They own their own island.
Ten people makes is possible to buy a 100,000 dollar island in Canada, near enough for these US residents to get to as quickly as I can get to the Lake District. Apparently it's not freezing cold either!
Exploring an island is one thing, but being able to hack the overgrown woods to your own design, build whatever permanent structure you like (or live in a tent) is also very cool.
