Thanks for the link to the lyrics, I had forgotten some details. Although another antipodean I had learnt the song in music lessons in grade 3 or 4 at primary school at Scarborough, Australia. It and Botany Bay just about complete my musical education! I found John Peel to be an excellent lullaby when walking round and around my house rocking my infant son in the early hours. Perhaps it had a soothing influence on me, rather than my son, because of the Lakeland association. I think there is only one indirect reference to John Peel in all the S&A stories and that is P&M. I don't think Roger and old Mr Swainson give it a mention in SD?
