The track leading to the real Blacketts is confusing. It may be that they are hybrids combining the characters of several people, just as the lake is a hybrid of Coniston and Windmere. It is also likely that this is an area where Ransome did not want researchers poking about while the people in question were still alive. A possible starting point for any further research would be any letters and notes relating to the genesis of SA. The fact that some of this material is being held back would seem to suggest that you are heading in the right direction.
