Did anyone see that guy last night on 'Secret of the Ancients' (UK - BBC 2) trying to cast an Archimedes screw in bronze at the 'Hanging Gardens' site? He deliberately used ancient technology. i.e. it was real Dick Callum stuff. There were several sets of Beckfoot-type bellows going at it, and he too had problems getting the temperature high enough. In the end he used much bigger lumps of charcoal, and reached 1,100 degrees c. - if only Dick had thought of that.
