I recall reading, in a book I think, of a quotation by Ransome along the lines that when he was a child the Lakes (or perhaps it was just Windermere) were like an ocean but now with motor boats etc. they/it are no more than a pond. It may have been in a letter he wrote to someone which was printed in a book. I cannot recall where I saw it and I would like to quote his words in a talk I am giving on Monday next. I would be most grateful if anyone could tell me where I have seen this. Many thanks in anticipation. Margaret.
