Both versions of pemmican are utterly disgusting and should be eaten only in dire emergency.

I am amazed by the lack of fibre and vegetables described in the books. I can only recall one fresh green vegetable - peas - which Mrs Walker specifically supplied to prevent scurvy. One dish of peas could hardly have prevented scurvy throughout all the adventures; surely Roger would have got trench mouth at the very least. (Note semi-colon experimentation.) I also recall the carrots in the hotpot in WH, but vegetables of any kind hardly figure in any meal. Given the care and attention that AR gave to his descriptions of food, I don't think it can be attributed to mere omission in writing on his part.
