I don't quite follow Iain's argument. Surely Robert Thompson is right when he says that there is no indication in the books that Mrs Blackett's name was ever Margaret. Is Iain saying that 'Margaret' is used in a preliminary draft somewhere? If this is the case, then one of the reasons it was changed to Mary might have been to avoid having a mother and daughter with the same forename - this is far less common than a father and son with the same name, when 'junior' is used. I have never heard of a daughter labelled 'junior'. We know that Peggy was at one time called 'Margaret' in the family because the GA used it. As to 'Molly', my grandmother was always 'Molly' in the family, and her baptismal name was Mary.
