I know I'm a bit late in replying but I thoroughly agree! SW was the first S&A book I read and is still just edging out SD and WDMTGTS as my favourite. As a child in the tropics (early 70s), when rain fell for days without end and I had a HUGE muddy-edged puddle near the house, I used to create channels and islands and all sorts of exciting things! After reading all the books several times over (now reading them to my two youngest), I thought the Eels and Amazons in SW were the closest thing I'd come across in English (country, not language) literature to Australian children, socks, shoes, dresses, night clothes in tents (!) and proper bedtimes notwithstanding.
