Regarding the (overly?) long boom - the suggestion that Swallow had excessive weather helm would make me consider reducing the chord of the sail) to move the centre of effort forward - though with the reliance of "a peg" at the transom end-of-things for sheeting, probably the boom would have to remain as long as it was.
All fascinating research, though.
