I just read the book again and enjoyed it.
Roger: You took the middle ground, which I thought about after I posted last time. It reminded me of a famous story about Einstein, his theory did not preclude the expansion of the universe, but he was taken aback when it was shown possible with the equations, so he put in an extra variable to stop that - of course the Universe does not listen to Einstein.
In an interesting court case one is often presented with contradictory evidence and it is fun to sort out the mess. Often it involves people's lives so it can be very serious.
Let us start as one would start in such a case, let us establish that which we can agree are facts.
Fact 1. We know for sure it is two stories.
Fact 2. It has three components, the main house, a servants quarters area attached and a barn.
So what are the things that are not a question or not subject to doubt?
