Which wouldn't apply to my copy of 'Post D', which is from 1940 and was a cheap yellow-jacket Gollancz edition. Now thoroughly sun-tanned, all the way through.
It clearly depends on the quality of the paper- which for cheap editions in 1940 would be very acidic. I'm sad to think that this book is turning into powder from the inside, as it's one of my favourite reads- as clear and stylish as AR at his best, but unavailable except at stupid prices. And not digitised, which is the worst thing.
