Hmmm, you could argue that Pete walks into Roy's stores and thinks aloud about what to buy....but they may not actually end up purchasing those items? It does seem more likely to be a mild author blunder. Let us analyse the timings and get pedantic!


They marched in with, first of all, the thought of the Coot Club supper in their heads.
“Mushroom soup,” said Pete. “Three of them and three of us. Reckon we’ll do with three tins.”
