There are even more examples of potential conflict: what about at the end of Swallowdale when everyone charges the Wild Cat camp to drive away the invaders. What would they have done had it not been Captain Flint? Actually, I think Ed is worrying too much (post-Columbine trauma?) as the kids are none of them the type to willingly hurt anyone else. I do confess, however, to a lingering uneasiness about the arrow at the first meeting of the Swallows and the Amazons. Even now, when I read the book aloud, it tends to generate a family-full of shaking heads and muttered comments about putting out of eyes. My main concern has been that one of mine would try to copy Nancy!
