Mike Field is right about one thing - it was the end of an era, or at least the beginning of the end. That era was one of nostalgia, felt by the generation that could just about remember Britain as AR knew it and who grew up reading Ransome. That generation (of which I am one) is now passing, and modern children have a huge range of authors to choose from, all writing in a modern way. The TARS aim is to 'celebrate AR', but I feel that's no longer relevant. What is needed now are constructive and permanent projects to keep AR's name alive into the rest of this century - both the Nancy Blackett Trust and the Arthur Ransome Trust are trying to do this and need support.
