Two points:
1. In Peter Duck they expierience an earthquake, a hurricane as well as volcanic ash. But are not subjected to a tsunami or tidal surge which is often a partner to any one of these events. Its odd the Ransome would ignore completely these but could the S and A's survived if he had not?
2. If like me Winter Holiday inspired an interest in "Arctic" travel, you will be interested to know that Furthest North by Nansen has been replublished this year. the suitably titled amazon books have it and the service is very efficient and secure.
