TarBoard posts definitely seem to come in spurts rather than as a constant flow, presumably when somebody posts something worth commenting on. Possibly with a much larger base of posters somebody would always be posting something that triggered responses.
Several years ago, the timing of posts was positively correlated with weekdays, with little activity on weekends; this gave rise to a hypothesis about internet availability in homes, but it could equally have been explained several different ways...and the correlation is definitely weaker now.
