I first read the Swallows and Amazon books when I was about 10,(which incidently enough wasn't too long ago). I was never distrubed at any of the violence in the books, because as a kid I knew it was all a game and that obviously nothing could happen or else how could you have all the 11 odd sequals? The only violence that ever really distrubed me was the violence in Peter Duck when the pirates attack Bill and Peter Duck and later when Bill is shot. But even then, I knew it was made up so it wasn't so bad. Perhaps kids who read S&A see the series differently from adults reading them?
